Jay Tidbits and a Video

Jay is 14 months old now and he is sooo cute.  He's gotten really good at giving hugs and they are just the best things to receive, especially when he gives you one unsolicited.

He has been saying mama and dada for awhile, but just recently he started saying a couple other things. He's been saying "Uh oh" when things fall to the floor.  Usually it's his sippy cup, which he's thrown to the floor from his high chair.  He's also been known to throw things down the basement stairs through the cat door and then say "Uh oh."  Clearly we need to teach him that "Uh oh" only applies when things fall accidentally!   He's also started saying "Buh-bye" and waving.  The absolute cutest thing though, is sometimes after doing that, he'll kiss his hand and kind of blow it at you.  I hope I can catch that on video so I can share it with you, because it's one of my favorite things he does!

Jay still loves being read to.  His current favorite book at daycare is Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  We have a copy at home and he's happy to look in it here too.  Other things he likes: opening and closing doors, putting things in and taking things out of pretty much anything, playing with all his new toys, being pushed in the car, petting/harassing the pets, "talking", taking baths, pushing chairs around, playing with bowls and spoons and climbing the stairs.

He's become a pickier eater.  That started after he recovered from the RSV, though I'm not sure it's related.  He used to try pretty much anything we'd put in front of him, but now he sometimes won't even try things that he used to eat.  Very frustrating.  He still loves fruit and we can pretty much count on him eating that, but he needs more nutritional variety!

Here's a video of him from earlier.  You can see him demonstrate two of his favorite things :)

June Baby!

We figured it was about time we shared some details and pictures of the baby we're expecting this June!  I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant and this baby is due on June 2nd, which also happens to be Justin's mom's birthday!

Thus far, this pregnancy has been pretty great.  I didn't experience the nausea and extreme exhaustion that I had during the first trimester when pregnant with Jay, which was a blessing.  I certainly couldn't afford to be that tired all the time, what with working full time and having a one year old to take care of!  I actually haven't had much of an appetite and barely any cravings.  Yesterday was the first time I think I felt like I HAD to have something or I would just freak out.  All I could think about on my drive into work was how much I wanted orange juice.  Luckily, we have a vending machine that sells OJ and milk, so I was all set!  The one thing that hasn't been great about this pregnancy is my mood swings.  I have been constantly up and down, which has been exhausting for everyone.  I hope that passes soon; it's not fun for me or for the poor people around me.

We're not finding out the gender again this time.  The surprise was a lot of fun last time.  We both are feeling that this one is a girl though.  My mood swings are definitely making me think that!  I did not have those when pregnant with Jay.  We'll of course still think of both boy and girl names, just in case our feeling turns out to be wrong.

I had an ultrasound this past Wednesday.  Everything looks great and the baby was being so cute (well, as cute as he/she can be at this point!).  There was hand waving and feet grabbing and a lot of cute little movements.  Here are some of the ultrasound pictures.

We're so excited to be expanding our family and look forward to meeting our new little one in June.  Something tells me that the next five months are going to go by really quickly for us!

Snow Fun!

On Saturday we took Jay out to play in the snow.  It was pretty icy out, since it had both rained and snowed, but we were eager to test out his new sled.  He loved sledding!  We pulled him around for awhile and then let him just play in the snow.  He had a tough time walking in it, but I think he enjoyed it.

Christmas 2012

We had a great Christmas!  Jay didn't sleep in as late as we would have liked, but he was a happy little boy from the minute he got up.  We brought him downstairs at 6:30am and he had a breakfast of banana, carrot cake and milk.  Then we let him go to the living room to take a look at all the presents.  He made a beeline for the Cozy Coupe and then circled back to the wagon.  So many presents!

Justin grabbed our stockings and we opened those.  I didn't take any pictures, but it wasn't anything too interesting.  Santa gave Justin and I fun things like toothbrushes and deodorant.  Jay got some bath toys, a little stuffed reindeer and a snowman straw sippy cup.

Jay was still distracted by the wagon and the car, so we let him play in those for a little while.

Jay would have stayed in the car all morning, but we had a lot of presents to open, so we had to get to that.  Jay participated from his car for some of the present opening, but he eventually left the car and played with his new toys.

After presents, we had some cinnamon rolls for breakfast and played with Jay for a bit more.  Then it was time for Jay's nap and we hung out around the house for a bit before we had to start getting things ready for the afternoon.

We hosted Christmas this year and Justin's family arrived for the celebration around noon.  We had a yummy appetizer spread of jumbo shrimp (so good!), cheese, crackers and pepperoni, artichoke-spinach dip and cranberry horseradish bacon spread.  We visited for a bit and then opened presents.  Then it was time to eat dinner - beef rib roast, scalloped potatoes, green beans amandine and butternut squash soup.  Dessert was Nanaimo bars and the Christmas cookies I made.  This year, I made peanut butter blossoms, peppermint meltaways, salted caramel fudge drops and sugar cookies.   Unfortunately, we didn't take many pictures Christmas afternoon, but here are a couple:

I missed seeing my family, but we did two Skype sessions, which worked real well.  We'll have to do that more often!

Now, some pictures of our Christmas decor:

All in all, it was a great Christmas and we look forward to hosting again!  Hopefully one of these years my family can come as well :)
