Yikes, I can't believe I haven't updated this since
April! Life is busy these days...between
working fulltime and having 2 kids on different nap schedules, I don't get much
free time. Thank goodness for lunch
breaks at work.
Jay turned 2 1/2 years old all the way back on April
30th. I took him for his 2 1/2 year
checkup on May 12th. He was very
cooperative for the most part, which was a nice surprise. He followed the nurse's instructions and was
full of questions about what she was doing.
She had to prick his finger to get blood at one point and he didn't get
upset at all. His finger bled a lot
too, but it didn't faze him a bit. He
just wanted to know "why"? The only time he didn't cooperate was when it
came time to check his vision with the SureSight device. He had to look at the device steadily and he
just was not having it. When he realized
we really wanted him to look at the device, then he decided to have some fun
and look anywhere but at it. We didn't
end up getting the readings on his eyes that day. Hopefully he cooperates at his three year
check-up! That day he measured in at
33.2 lbs. and 36.5 inches.
Jay is lots of fun these days. Of course, he does have his trying and
exhausting moments, but he makes up for those with his abundant cute and sweet
moments. He has a great laugh. It's infectious and he laughs a lot. He loves to be tickled and will ask for us to
tickle him often. He's very agile and is good at climbing the
stairs and he runs around like crazy.
Sometimes he'll just run around the back yard yelling "I'm
exercising!", laughing all the while. He likes to race and be chased. Now that it's warm out, he gets to play in
the water more, which is something he enjoys.
He's a little fish and has no fear of sticking his head under the
water.
Jay's communication and conversation skills have really developed
over the past 6 months. He's full of questions and observations and he
constantly impresses us with words and concepts that he knows. He will keep asking "why" about
everything, which is sometimes fun and other times tiring. He knows the alphabet and can recognize most,
if not all, of the uppercase letters. He
can spell his name. Jay knows how to
count and I've heard him get as high as fourteen. He can recognize numbers 0 - 9. Jay enjoys singing nursery rhymes. He's always singing Old MacDonald and lately
has been singing Monkeys on the Bed. He
went through a week or so where he was yelling Baa Baa Black Sheep quite
frequently.
He's still a good eater.
While he doesn't eat many vegetables, he eats lots of meat and
fruits. His favorite foods right now are
probably meatloaf, honey chicken, pizza and watermelon. Jay has also developed a sweet-tooth. I've had to put the cookies out of reach
because he was helping himself too often.
One morning he went downstairs before Brody and me, and when I came
down, he proudly told me that he ate cookies for breakfast.
I think Jay mostly likes being a big brother to Brody these
days. He does have his jealous moments,
especially now that Brody is mobile and has preferences and a real personality
of his own. We do have to remind him to
play gently and share with Brody. I'm
sure we'll be doing that for years to come!
