On August 27th we went to Lake Compounce for the ESPN Employee Picnic. It was a lot of fun. Lake Compounce is a small amusement park in Bristol, right across from ESPN. I imagine we'll go there a lot in the coming years because it has some decent rides for kids and a nice waterpark. We didn't take Jay on any rides, but he had fun just watching all the commotion. We walked around the park several times, stopping to chat with Justin's co-workers along the way. At dinner time, we headed to the pavillions at the back of the park and enjoyed the buffet. Jay loved the BBQ chicken. We played the rubber duck game, though Jay didn't have any interest in picking a duck and instead splashed in the water. We didn't take too many pictures, but here are a few.
My 31st birthday was on August 31st. I had to work that day, but got to come home and hang out with these handsome fellas afterward :)
I had a nice birthday evening at home with Justin. We had a simple and easy dinner of pizza and then we watched a movie. Justin got me a massage which is scheduled for September 15th. I can't wait! He also got me some beautiful flowers. My birthday happened to fall on Labor Day weekend this year. That worked out well for me because I got to sleep in two mornings. What a treat! Here are some pictures of my pretty bouquet and the little guy.
On the Saturday of Labor Day weekend we finally bit the bullet and started painting the dining room. I use "we" loosely, because I didn't help that much. I wasn't being lazy, I was just on Jay-entertaining duty. Later that day we cooked a birthday dinner for me. Steak, baked potatoes and green beans. It was tasty, except I didn't realize we were out of sour cream. Tragic! I survived, though my potato was drier than I would have liked.
On Sunday Karen, Mike, Serena and John came over to celebrate my birthday. John grilled up some burgers, dogs and corn on the cob and we had some chocolate cake for dessert. Jay was being a little ham during dinner and chowing down on corn (cut off the cob) and watermelon. Here are some pictures from that afternoon. Some are taken in front of our autumn clematis which is looking so pretty right now!
On Labor Day we put the second coat on the walls in the dining room. Later that day we had our neighbors over for dinner. They have a baby boy that is two months younger than Jay. Both babies are mobile now, so they can actually play together. It's very cool that there's a baby just around the corner for Jay to play with and grow up with. I forgot to get any pictures when they were over, but here are some from that morning when Justin was painting.
On Labor Day, I made a coleslaw recipe that's really easy and good. It's a sweeter coleslaw, but I thought it tasted really good with the BBQ pork. I found the recipe on Tasteofhome.com and it was submitted by Renee Endress. I don't know if I'll post lots of recipes on this blog, but I thought it might be a good place to share and store some of the recipes I try and like.
