December 2014

Tidbits about December:

-We had a parent-teacher conference with Jay’s preschool teacher where we learned he was one of two children that could do the 20-piece puzzles in the classroom.  As a result, we put puzzles on his Christmas list :-)

-Jay had his first eye appointment.  It went reasonably well.  He sat still long enough for the doctor to look at his eyes with her instruments and to participate in the eye chart test on the wall.  Thankfully he knows his alphabet and that helped with the eye chart test.  Originally she was showing him a chart with pictures on it.  Some of the pictures weren’t exactly clear to me, so I was worried he wouldn’t be able to easily figure them out.  He was struggling a bit and then she put the letter M up while she was looking for something else to show him.  Jay said “M” and the doctor was so surprised that he knew the letter.  I told her that he knew them all and it would probably be easier to just do the letters with him, so that’s what she did.  He was having fun at first, but when he started saying things like “noonie” instead of the letter, I knew we had lost him!  She was able to get enough information to conclude that he has little, if any, prescription at this point.

-Justin went to Seattle for business in mid-December.  Grandma Clarke came and helped out while he was away.  Thank goodness!  I don’t know what happened, but Jay decided to give me a run for my money during that week.  On the third day Justin was gone, Jay ran away and misbehaved during drop-off at school.  Then, that night, he just would not go to sleep.  He was up until midnight!  I was exhausted and thankfully Grandma was there.  Jay stayed home with her the next day and I just took Brody to school on his own.  Honestly, Jay hasn’t gone to sleep well for me since then.  It’s been a bit of a stressor!

-Obviously, the biggest event in December was Christmas.  We had a nice holiday at our house.  Brody was a bit sullen and overwhelmed at first.  He didn’t want to open presents and just kept crying that he wanted the TV on.  So, to help calm him down, we put a Christmas movie on while we were opening presents.  He eventually warmed up and had a good time.  Jay, on the other hand, didn’t need any convincing!  After presents we had our traditional cinnamon roll breakfast and then Skyped with my family.  Later in the afternoon, Justin’s side of the family came over and we opened presents and had a yummy prime rib for dinner.  It was a merry, though tiring, holiday!

Here are the pictures:

Bake faster cookies!

Jay thought Brody throwing flour on his face was hilarious and joined in on the fun!

The first thing Brody did when making cookies was throw flour on his face!

Wrestling!

Christmas Day:
Look how sad he is on Christmas!

Jay is ready to rip into the presents!

Still sad

Starting to warm up!

Jay looks suspicious of breakfast.
